app ( “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles your information on Apple iOS devices. By using the app you agree to this policy.

1. Summary

– Your diary, goals, and measurements are stored locally on your device. We do not operate an account system and we do not keep a copy of your personal data on our own servers.
– To identify foods and analyze meals, the app sends the information you request analysis on (food text, barcodes, and meal photos you choose to scan) to trusted third-party nutrition and AI services. See Section 4.
– Subscriptions are processed by Apple, not by us. We never see your card or payment details.
– We use a product analytics service, PostHog, to see how the app is used. We
do not use advertising tools and we do not sell your data. Text you type into
AI food search is included — see Section 5..

2. Information We Collect

You provide the following when you set up and use the app:

– Profile and goals: height, weight, age, gender, activity level, target weight, weight-goal type, and calculated values such as BMI and your daily calorie target.
– Diary data: foods and meals you log (name, calories, macros, quantity, time), water intake, workouts and exercise, and body measurements.
– Meal photos and barcodes: when you use “Snap Meal” or “Scan Barcode”, the app accesses your camera or photo library to capture an image or a product barcode so the food can be identified.

All of the above is stored on your device.

3. Permissions We Use

– Camera: to photograph meals and scan food barcodes.
– Photo Library: to let you choose an existing photo of a meal to analyze.
– Notifications: to send optional reminders and progress notifications. You can disable these anytime in iOS Settings.

We request each permission only when you use the related feature, and the app works without them (with those features unavailable).

4. Third-Party Services

The app sends limited data directly from your device to the following services to provide core functionality. We do not control how these providers process data; please review their policies.

– Edamam: food search and nutrition data. When you use “Snap Meal”, the meal photo you selected is sent to Edamam’s image-analysis service to estimate its nutrition. Food search terms you type are also sent to Edamam. Privacy policy: https://www.edamam.com/pages/privacy

We send only the data needed for the requested feature. We do not transmit your name, email, or full profile to these services, and we do not use them for advertising.

5. Analytics and Tracking

The app uses a product analytics service, PostHog, described below. It contains
no advertising tools, we do not track you across other apps or websites owned by
other companies, and we do not build advertising profiles. Our App Store privacy
information reflects the collection described in this section.

 

PostHog

PostHog is a product analytics service provided by PostHog, Inc. We use it to
understand how the app is used — which screens are opened, which features are
used, and where people stop — so that we can improve it.

PostHog receives anonymous usage events: a screen being opened, a food being
added to the diary, a barcode scan, a meal photo being estimated, a step of the
initial setup being reached or left, a reminder being switched on, or the
subscription screen being shown, started or dismissed. Events may carry plain
amounts — for example a daily calorie target, the calories of an item that was
logged, a number of items, or a star rating — but never what the item was.

AI food search is the exception, and we want to be explicit about it. When you
type into the AI food search box, the text you typed is sent with the events for
that search — when the search runs, when an estimate comes back, when it fails,
when the app asks you a follow-up question, when you change the quantity, when
you switch tabs with that text still in the box, when a list of packaged products
is shown or one is picked from it, when you reach the free search limit, and when
you close the search sheet. We collect it so that we can read the searches that
return a poor result or no result at all, and improve them. Please do not type
anything into that box you would not want us to read.

This applies only to the AI food search box. The foods you log, the names of
foods or meals you create, and the contents of any note you write are not sent to
PostHog and remain on your device.

Alongside these events PostHog receives limited technical information: the app’s
language and regional format, the app version, the operating system and its
version, the device model, the screen size, the device’s time zone, whether it is
on Wi-Fi or mobile data, the analytics library version, and a session identifier.

We have configured PostHog to limit what it collects:

– No personal profile is created. Events are counted but are not assembled into a
profile of an individual user.
– Your network (IP) address is not recorded or resolved, so your location is not
derived from it.
– Your mobile carrier and the device’s user-agent string are removed before
events are sent.
– Session recording and screen recording are switched off.
– No purchase or order identifier is sent to PostHog.
– Events sent to PostHog never contain your name or contact details, your weight,
height, age or goal weight, or your body measurements.
– The app reads no advertising identifier (IDFA), vendor identifier (IDFV) or
device serial number for PostHog analytics.

PostHog processes this data on our instructions as a data processor. Data may be
stored on servers in the United States, relying on standard contractual clauses
or an equivalent safeguard. PostHog’s privacy policy is available at

You can stop all collection from your installation at any time by deleting the
app from your device.

 

6. Payments and Subscriptions

Premium is offered as auto-renewable subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple App Store account settings; uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. We do not receive or store your payment information.

7. Data Storage and Retention

Your profile, diary, and measurements are stored locally on your device and remain there until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app. Because we do not keep this data on our servers, deleting the app removes it from our reach. Data sent to the third-party services in Section 4 is retained by those providers according to their own policies.

8. Your Rights

You control your data directly:

– Access and edit: view and change any logged entry, goal, or measurement in the app.
– Delete: remove individual entries in the app, or uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data.
– Depending on your location (for example, the EEA and UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have additional rights regarding personal data.

9. Children’s Privacy

Calorie Deficit Calculator AI is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will address it.

10. Health and Nutrition Disclaimer

Calorie Deficit Calculator AI is a self-tracking tool, not a medical service. Calorie and nutrition values are estimates and may be inaccurate. The app does not provide medical advice. Consult a qualified professional before making health, diet, or exercise decisions. Health and diet information you enter is used only to provide the app’s features and is never used for advertising or sold.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including on-device storage and encrypted (HTTPS) connections to the services in Section 4. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
